Members and friends of AFL were invited to a preview and intimate cocktail reception at Christie’s New York to celebrate the exhibition and sale Irene Roosevelt Aitken: Collector, Connoisseur, Patron.

This exceptional collection, assembled by the family over nearly a century, included 18th century French and English furniture; mounted celadon porcelains; a remarkable collection of Meissen birds; the world’s finest collection of mounted objects by Matthew Boulton; British and French 18th century portraits and paintings by Roslin and Lancret; drawings and pastels by Fragonard and Gainsborough; two great Savonnerie carpets from the 17th century; 18th century English silver; gold boxes; and Fabergé; among many other things. The Christie’s exhibition, set to be a highlight of the season, was the first and only time the collection was presented to the public.
