La Rentrée Celebration at 44DeVore
American Friends of the Louvre gathered at 44DeVore on New York’s Upper East Side to celebrate La Rentrée and the start of a new season. The evening offered a welcome opportunity for members and friends to reconnect following the summer break while enjoying an engaging program of art and conversation.
Hosted by Loie DeVore, an American Friends of the Louvre Advisory Board member, the evening began with a private walkthrough of 44DeVore’s exhibition Hidden Portraits, led by artist Volker Hermes. For the past decade, Hermes has reimagined classical portraits from museum collections around the world through digital imaging, creating works that engage with themes of self-representation, fashion, and the enduring desire to shape one’s public image. The tour included a work inspired by one of the Louvre’s masterpieces, Portrait of Madame Récamier.
Following the walkthrough, guests gathered for a reception sponsored by Ruinart, continuing the evening’s conversations in a relaxed setting. The event provided a lively and convivial start to the season, bringing the American Friends of the Louvre community together for La Rentrée.
