Zurbarán: Divine Light

Zurbarán: Divine Light is the first major U.S. retrospective of Francisco de Zurbarán in nearly four decades, bringing together more than 100 paintings and drawings from leading museums and private collections across Europe and the United States. Organized by the National Gallery, London, the Musée du Louvre, and the Art Institute of Chicago, the exhibition traces the full arc of the seventeenth-century Spanish master’s career, from monumental religious commissions to intimate still lifes. Renowned for his luminous realism, dramatic use of light and shadow, and profound spiritual intensity, Zurbarán’s works reveal a painter whose quiet, contemplative vision secured his place among the greatest artists of the Spanish Baroque.

As a co-curator, significant works from the Louvre’s collection will travel to Chicago for this exhibition.
