AFL is currently in a moment of exciting and dynamic growth. Earlier this spring, Joshua Bell started as the new Director of Development. He oversees membership and communications operations and supports the Executive Director with all fundraising initiatives. Frances Lindemann also joined the team as the inaugural Executive Assistant and supports the Director’s Office. Together, our growing staff  form a collection of diverse French expatriates and francophiles dedicated to supporting the Musée du Louvre and advancing French culture in the United States.

Prior to AFL, Josh spent the past three and a half years in major gift fundraising roles at LGBT+ and HIV advocacy organizations. Prior to this, Josh served for four years as the Senior Major Gifts Officer at The Studio Museum in Harlem. During his time there, he oversaw not only major gifts, but also patron programs and all art acquisitions. His other work experience includes time spent in higher education with positions held both at The Bard Graduate Center and The Institute for the Study of the Ancient World. Josh is also currently serving as the Board Chairman of Artistic Noise, a Harlem-based nonprofit arts organization. Josh received his BA in English and French literature before receiving an MA in art history from New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts.

Frances is a writer and native New Yorker with a passion for the history of art and the French language. She holds an M.F.A. in fiction from Columbia University, where she also taught undergraduate and high school level creative writing and literature courses. Previously, Frances has worked at the Berg Collection of English and American Literature at The New York Public Library; the nonprofit publisher Archipelago Books, which specializes in translated literature; and The Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library.
