Member of AFL’s Board of Directors Lionel Sauvage was recently awarded the prestigious distinction of Officier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, a distinction bestowed by the French government to recognize individuals who have contributed to the enrichment of cultural life and the promotion of artistic values. The honor was bestowed on him by the Consul General of France in Los Angeles, Julie Duhaut-Bedos.

Lionel is a French philanthropist and 18th-Century French art collector based in Los Angeles, California. Lionel’s successful career in finance led him to philanthropy where he became deeply involved in supporting the arts. Beyond his work on the AFL board, Lionel and his family also fund the LA Residency Fellowship, which allows a staff member from the Louvre to spend a month in Los Angeles conducting research at the Getty Research Institute as well as other museums throughout California.

In addition to AFL, Lionel is also a board member for Société des Amis du Louvre, the Los Angeles Opera, American Friends of Chantilly, INSEAD Foundation, and Abraham Path Initiative. In 2003, Lionel also co-founded FLAX, the foundation connecting France-based artists with opportunities in Southern California. Lionel also served as President of the Design Council at the Getty and brought his support to the Master Drawings Council for the reconstruction of Notre Dame.

Félicitations, Lionel!
