Adopt a Bench in the Tuileries Garden
American Friends of the Louvre was proud to support the Louvre’s 2025 Tous Mécènes campaign, which seeks to restore the historic benches of the Tuileries Garden and add new seating to one of Paris’s most visited public spaces.
Each year, millions of visitors stroll through the Tuileries Garden, where its benches have borne witness to countless stories and encounters. Through this crowdfunding initiative, the Louvre is undertaking a project to restore and recreate the garden’s historic benches, enhancing visitor comfort and experience.
These cast-iron benches, first installed in the nineteenth century throughout the garden’s groves, green rooms, and terraces, have become enduring symbols of Parisian art de vivre. Two historic designs are being reproduced: a one-sided, rectilinear bench intended for quiet contemplation, and a double-sided model with lion-paw feet, well suited to conversation and exchange. The Louvre is collaborating with a French foundry renowned for its traditional craftsmanship to create faithful replicas based on original models.
For $5,200, you may adopt a bench of your choosing in the garden. Your generosity will be recognized with the placement of your name on the bench for ten years. Benches may also be adopted in honor or in memory of a loved one. Supporters who prefer may instead make a donation of any amount to this conservation project.
